Our team provided civil engineering and stormwater management design for Maplewood Park in the City of Vaughan. This project required the integration of functional stormwater management infrastructure within a public parkland setting, balancing engineering performance requirements with the recreational and aesthetic goals of the park design. We worked with the City of Vaughan and the TRCA to ensure that the SWM facility met all regulatory standards while complementing the surrounding park features.
Designing stormwater management within a park environment presents distinct challenges. The SWM facility must achieve its water quality and quantity control targets while remaining safe and visually compatible with active recreation areas. Our team designed grading, inlet and outlet structures, and overland flow routes that function reliably during storm events while maintaining accessible, usable parkland during dry weather. The drainage design also addressed runoff from adjacent trails, play areas, and open lawn spaces.
We prepared the stormwater management report, site grading plans, and servicing drawings required for approval by the City of Vaughan and the TRCA. Our engineers coordinated with the landscape architect and parks department to ensure that the engineering infrastructure was integrated seamlessly into the park layout. Maplewood Park demonstrates how thoughtful engineering design can support both environmental stewardship and vibrant community recreation within a single site.
