About EMC Group Limited

We deliver approval-ready civil engineering, planning support, and construction-phase services for land development and municipal infrastructure across Ontario.

Our Story

EMC Group Limited was founded in 1981 in Vaughan, Ontario — at a time when the communities north of Toronto were just beginning their transformation from farmland into the neighbourhoods and commercial corridors we know today. From a small office, the firm took on its first residential subdivision and industrial site plan projects in Woodbridge, Maple, and Concord, working directly with local landowners and builders who were shaping Vaughan's earliest development areas. Those early projects — grading plans, storm sewers, lot servicing — laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Through the mid-1980s, EMC's work expanded into Kleinburg, King, Caledon, Richmond Hill, and Mississauga, earning a reputation for reliable engineering and a practical understanding of Ontario's municipal approval process. The firm developed a particular strength in estate residential subdivisions — large-lot communities with challenging terrain, private services, and heritage-sensitive settings — projects that demanded more than standard engineering and rewarded careful site-specific attention.

By the 1990s, EMC had become a key engineering partner in Brampton's rapid westward growth. The firm's involvement in the Fletcher's Creek secondary plan area was a defining chapter: coordinating trunk sanitary sewer infrastructure, stormwater management, and subdivision servicing across multiple landowner groups and development phases. Fletcher's Meadow demonstrated EMC's ability to manage the technical complexity of large-area land development while maintaining the close client relationships that had defined the firm from the start.

At the same time, the practice grew northward. Projects in Barrie, Angus, Innisfil, and Wasaga Beach established EMC's presence in Simcoe County — work that ranged from residential subdivisions and estate developments to commercial and industrial sites. In 2002, EMC opened its Barrie office on Essa Road, formalizing a commitment to the region that had been building for more than a decade.

The 2000s brought a deepening involvement with the City of Toronto, where EMC took on a wide range of brownfield and greenfield developments — infill projects, institutional additions, mixed-use sites, and complex urban servicing challenges. The firm also became a trusted partner on major community recreation facilities across the GTA, working alongside leading architectural firms on community centres, aquatic facilities, arenas, and multi-use recreation complexes in Mississauga, Ajax, Milton, Orillia, Lakeshore, Guelph, and Toronto.

EMC's hospitality portfolio grew through long-standing partnerships — delivering site engineering for Courtyard Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Aloft, and Novotel properties, many developed in collaboration with Easton's Group of Hotels. On the planning side, the firm represented clients before municipalities and agencies across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, supporting official plan amendments, zoning applications, and site plan approvals in more than 80 municipalities from Kitchener and Guelph to Belleville and Niagara.

Throughout 45 years of practice, EMC has deliberately remained a boutique firm. The decision has always been intentional: staying close enough to every project that principals remain involved, that clients speak directly with the engineers and planners doing the work, and that each submission reflects a standard of care that larger organizations struggle to maintain across hundreds of concurrent files. The firm's project list — now spanning more than 3,500 assignments — is built not on volume for its own sake, but on enduring relationships with builders, architects, school boards, municipalities, and landowners who return project after project because the work gets done right.

From residential subdivisions and estate communities to industrial parks, automotive dealerships, hotels, community centres, and municipal infrastructure, EMC's range reflects the breadth of Ontario's development landscape. But at its core, the firm remains what it was in 1981 — a practice built on direct relationships, practical engineering, and a commitment to getting approvals across the finish line.
