EMC Group Limited is seeking an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to deliver stormwater management and municipal servicing assignments for projects across Ontario. This opportunity is suited to a motivated self-starter who combines strong design and modelling capabilities with clear communication and a demonstrated record of obtaining engineering approvals.
Working with our engineers, planners and project teams, you will take responsibility for designs, studies and reports from initial assessment through municipal and agency approval. The successful candidate will bring practical engineering judgment, attention to detail and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, coordinated submissions.
What you’ll do
- Design stormwater management systems, including ponds, storage facilities and low impact development (LID) measures, to meet water quantity, water quality, erosion control and water balance objectives.
- Prepare site servicing plans, functional servicing studies, stormwater management reports and master drainage studies.
- Undertake hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to assess drainage systems, evaluate development impacts and establish appropriate stormwater management solutions.
- Complete water balance calculations and infiltration assessments, and prepare erosion and sediment control plans.
- Analyze and design water distribution systems, including water demand, pressure and fire flow assessments.
- Design pump stations and septic systems, including supporting calculations, drawings and approval submissions.
- Prepare coordinated engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including surface creation and analysis, grading design and pipe network development.
- Prepare and coordinate applications and supporting technical documentation for Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs).
- Coordinate with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities and other consultants to resolve review comments and advance subdivision and site plan applications through the approval process.
- Manage assigned tasks and deadlines while maintaining the accuracy, completeness and consistency of calculations, drawings and reports.
What you bring
- A degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of five years of experience designing stormwater management systems, with demonstrated proficiency in applying Ontario municipal and conservation authority design criteria and MECP requirements.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario, or active progress toward registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Demonstrated experience with stormwater management ponds, LID design, servicing plans and studies, master drainage studies, erosion and sediment control plans, and water balance calculations.
- Expertise in Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS, SWMM and InfoWorks for hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, and WaterCAD/WaterGEMS for water distribution system analysis.
- The ability to develop models, assess results and clearly explain the underlying assumptions and design implications.
- Expertise in pump station and septic system design, including preparation of supporting calculations and engineering drawings.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including surface creation and analysis, grading tools, pipe network tools and the preparation of coordinated engineering drawings.
- Experience in water distribution system analysis and design, and in preparing technical submissions for MECP ECAs.
- A proven ability to independently prepare stormwater management and servicing reports, address agency review comments, and obtain engineering approvals through subdivision and site plan application processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare well-organized technical reports that clearly present design criteria, assumptions, calculations, findings and recommendations.
- Initiative, sound problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, clients and reviewing agencies.
Additional assets
- Experience coordinating design teams, reviewing technical work and mentoring junior staff.
- Experience supporting tendering or construction and resolving design issues encountered in the field.
Why join EMC
- Apply your water resources expertise to a varied portfolio of land development and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers and planners while developing your technical and project leadership skills.
- Follow your work from initial design through approvals and construction within a team that values practical solutions, accountability and technical quality.
